Husband leaves wife in tears on wedding anniversary: 'Why do you do this to me?'

About 14 years ago, Kayla and Drew Gottfried got married under the gazebo of a friend’s house.

Afterward, they took the tape of their wedding ceremony to a video editing store to be transferred to a disc. But the shop told them the tape was blank. The Pleasant Hill, Ore. couple was certain they had lost the footage forever.

Fast forward to two months before their 14th wedding anniversary, Drew received a message from a friend saying that they had found the tape with the lost footage.

The husband held onto the secret until the day of their anniversary and shared what happened on TikTok.

“This is my wife, Kayla. Today is our 14th wedding anniversary!” Drew explained. “She has never seen a video of our wedding ceremony. We were told shortly after our wedding that the video had been accidentally erased.”

Drew explained the setup as Kayla sat in the theater next to him, watching the previews. He said that she had “no idea what is about to play and believed there were there to watch one of her favorite films. But the husband had a pretty big trick up his sleeve.

“A couple [of] months ago, a friend found the video with a bunch of old tapes at our church and gave it to me!” he said. “I rented a theater and asked if they could play it for me instead of a movie. Let’s see her reaction to what we thought was lost forever.”

As soon as the wedding footage started to play, Kayla was taken aback. She covered her eyes, started to tear up and asked Drew how he uncovered the lost video. Drew described her reaction as “pure happiness” and called the bait and a switch a “successful surprise!”

“I just feel like we were really able to grow up together,” Kayla later told the Washington Post. “Even though 14 years have gone by, I still feel that young, giddy love.”

The emotional video received over 6.1 million TikTok views.

“I see why you’ve been together 14 years,” a user wrote.

“I started crying as soon as the room went dark, knowing the joy she would have,” another said.

“BAWLING MY EYES OUT,” someone wrote. “WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME!”
