Huey's in East Memphis is closing temporarily for renovations. What upgrades are planned?

The East Memphis location of venerable Memphis restaurant Huey’s will be temporarily closed starting later this month for renovations to improve the 20-year-old eatery.

According a news release Tuesday from Huey’s, its location at 4872 Poplar Ave., in the ErinWay shopping center, will close its doors to the public from March 26 through April 4. The restaurant is tentatively slated to reopen April 5.

Huey’s — which has been operating in the Memphis area since 1970 and is known for its burgers, beer and live music — has 10 locations in the Mid-South.

When it reopens in early April, Huey’s East Memphis will have a new look and amenities. According to Huey’s, the Poplar location will undergo several upgrades “including the dining room floor, bar countertop, wood staining and fresh paint in various areas.” The kitchen will be upgraded as well, and will feature new floors, lighting and ceilings.

The restaurant will also complete construction on a 60-plus-seat enclosed patio area, which will feature seven big-screen TVs, four large garage doors that will allow for an easy transition to open-air seating and space for live, local music.

Steve Voss, chief operations officer of Huey’s, said the company has been “very fortunate to have such great success in East Memphis and as a result, we are able to do these renovations and upgrades to hopefully serve even more amazing customers. “

Voss noted the Huey’s in East Memphis recently turned 20 years old. “So we feel like the timing is perfect, and we are very excited for these improvements for our guests and our employees. We will begin some of the work while we are still open so we can minimize the downtime and keep the blues, brews and burgers flowing.”

Huey’s to-go kitchen will remain open during most of the renovations, and operations at the other nine locations of Huey’s will continue as normal.
