Henry Cavill did more than an admirable job. Warner Bros. and DC Universe simply can't get out of their own ways, though. The most iconic superhero of all-time deserve to have as many solo films as he does sharing screen time. Introducing all these B-rated DC friends to tease to upcoming films has been an absolute disaster. That's a shame because Superman deserves more than one solo film and two mashups/cameos.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with Henry Cavil playing Superman. The problem was the stories. They weren't great or exciting. Justice League was boring and derivative. I'm personally not pleased with Ezra Miller as The Flash. He doesn't fit the role. Ben Affleck was surprisingly good as Batman, and I hope that both he, and Henry Cavil, both return to these iconic roles. Oh,and Warner: another origin story, especially for a teen Supergirl is unwarranted and unoriginal. We know the characters, and origin stories are passe!
DC's issues were never the actors. Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill played the characters well, but the writing and the direction was atrocious. They're continuing a disaster of a cinematic universe without having any clear road map. They need to end it, plan it for a few years and then go for it.
Of all the issues fans had with Man of Steel, Batman V superman and Justice League I am fairly certain that Cavill is not one of them. He's actually a superb Superman. It's the writers and directors that need to make changes.
Wow, I've been hoping that DC would turn this ship around since i've always been a superman fan. Growing up with Christopher Reeve's Superman, I thought Cavill was an awesome choice and really did make a good Kal El. Unfortunately, it appears DC refuses to hear its fans and will continue to the bottom of the ocean. Sad to see.
I'd say it wasn't Cavill's fault. I would say it was DC trying to play catchup to the Marvel Cinematic Universe by putting together characters without really having them be standalone. The Justice League was very forced. Nothing foreshadowed it. It just happened.
I think the problem was not Cavill or Affleck -- the stories in those films were overblown and had problems involving the audience and also connecting to the audience. The actors were good.
Warner Bros needs to let Marvel have the Live Action Movie Universe and leave DC with animated films. Those are still superior, and besides we can get the right actors to fill each role. Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, and Nathan Fillion were perfect for their characters.
No. Cavill is not the cause of DC's problems. They just can't seem to get their act together. The DC film universe is a complete mess compared to the Marvel film universe.
Cavill and Affleck are not the problem. Superman is a bit one dimensional, and best in smaller doses.Batman is a great character, but we just had a tremendous Batman trilogy wrap up. DC would have been much better to focus on the underused characters, particularly Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern, which they could go back and do right. Beyond that, DC has the additional problem of being late to the trough, and unless they have something great (like Wonder Woman), they are going to be taking a back seat until the MCU wraps up.
