Stevie Van Zandt has taken Low Cut Connie’s 2023 song “Are You Gonna Run?” and given it some E Street Band flavor in a new remix.

The song originally appeared on Low Cut Connie’s 2023 LP Art Dealers. “The new version is just thicker sounding, kind of unapologetically classic rock,” Adam Weiner a.k.a. Low Cut Connie tells Rolling Stone. “The original is really sweet but a little more mysterious. The new version isn’t mysterious at all. It’s desperate and honest. His voice and guitar has that kind of straight-ahead rock thing that just feels honest to me.”

Weiner is a lifelong fan of Van Zandt. They first met backstage at a Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band show in Philadelphia, but didn’t grow close until Weiner interviewed him on his YouTube show Tough Cookies. “As you can see on YouTube, we really hit it off,” Weiner says. “Then he asked me to perform at the book launch event [for Van Zandt’s 2021 memoir Unrequited Infatuations]. We’re both Jersey guys who live for rock & roll. Lots of common language there.”

“Are You Gonna Run?” came to Weiner when he was chilling on a beach during the pandemic. “It was the last week of summer and the weather was gorgeous, but everyone was quarantining,” he says. “A beautiful and very sad feeling came over me. Just a real sense of abandonment. I remember feeling ‘You are not young anymore.'”

When Art Dealers came out, Van Zandt told him he’d love to get his hands on the song. “He said he wanted to remix it and add his voice to give it that extra bit of E Street soul,” says Weiner. “I was curious to hear how he could possibly add to the original since it was already pretty dense, but as soon as I heard his version I knew we had an absolute winner.  It sounded to me like a song from my youth, nostalgic and fresh at the same time. I think he added a lot of emotion with his vocals.”

Low Cut Connie are playing shows up and down the East Coast throughout the summer. During his downtime, Weiner hopes to have a chance to repay Van Zandt for remixing his song. “I’m hoping to sing or play piano on one of his tunes,” he says. “That’d be a treat. We’re both Jersey guys — it’s a heavy vibe we both carry. I think we sound damn good together. “
