Hub City Comic Con will return to Lubbock from Aug. 24-25, 2024.

This year's Hub City Comic Con is coming back swinging with the star-studded cast of "Hazbin Hotel," including the princess herself, the "Fairly OddParents," Avatar Korra and Bluey and Bingo as some of the guests this year.

Hub City Comic Con, which took a break last year, will be at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center, 1501 Mac Davis Lane from Aug. 24-25 for their eighth convention. Chris Slatosch, with the convention, discussed some of the upcoming highlights and what people can expect from this year's event.

"Our focus has been to try to get those bigger signing guests out and then build around them," Slatosch said. "Comic cons are typically some of the only events where everyone's happy and excited to be there. It's one of the cooler aspects, because it's a really good community."

Hazbin Hotel's Princess of Hell Charlie Morningstar, Angel Dust and Alastor the Radio Demon are coming to Lubbock

"Hazbin Hotel" is an Amazon Prime musical series created by Vivienne Medrano, a creator also known for the animated YouTube series, "Helluva Boss." Both series take place in the same realm, Hell, and are adult animations.

Hazbin Hotel's first episode hit Amazon Prime in January 2024 and quickly became a hit for several reasons, including its cast of Broadway stars.

The show follows Princess of Hell Charlie Morningstar, played by Erika Henningsen, as she tries to rehabilitate demons and peacefully reduce overpopulation by having demons ascend to Heaven. Through the eight episodes, she has to fight back against the pending assault from Heaven and work with some of Hell's most notable demons.

Two of those notable entities are Alastor the Radio Demon, played by Amir Talai, and Angel Dust, played by Blake Roman. Talai has performed in "The Circle," "What to Expect When You're Expecting," "Legally Blonde 2: Red. White and Blonde." Roman performed on Broadway's production of "Harmony" as Chopin.

Henningsen is also known for her portrayal of Cady Herron in Broadway's original production of "Mean Girls," young Gloria in "Girls5eva" and Madeline Gleeson in "Blue Bloods."

Slatosch was able to get these three stars through his ongoing relationship with several agencies.

"I pushed pretty hard to get those guys for Lubbock because I figured the crowd over there is around that age," Slatosch said. "And I love the show, so it's kind of a personal booking as well. We're working hard, especially with Hazbin, to get some out-of-towners there to see how we look at Lubbock. It's a beautiful part of the Dust Bowl we live in, with a cool area to experience."

With the three stars, Hub City Comic Con is offering a Hazbin Hotel VIP Pass for $100. This pass comes with a Hub City Comic Con Hazbin Hotel shirt, a themed specialty badge, lanyard, "hotel" card, 8x10 art piece, fast pass to all celebrity guests, early access to the show floor on Saturday and Sunday, and ticket-holders can bring two friends for free on Sunday.

Voices of childhood: The "Fairly OddParents" Cosmo and Wanda, Legend of Korra's avatar, will attend Hub City Comic Con

"The Fairly OddParents" debuted on Nickelodeon on March 30, 2001.

Another major part of the Hub City Comic Con is family-friendliness, and that is reflected in the variety of guests this year.

The "Fairly OddParents," a Nickelodeon TV series about Timmy Turner and his fairies - Comso and Wanda, aired from 2001-2017. The voices of Cosmo, Darran Norris, and Wanda, Susanne Blakeslee, will make their appearances at the convention.

What some "Fairly OddParents" fans might not know is where else they have heard Norris and Blakeslee's voices. Norris also voices Mr. Turner and Jorgen on the show, and played as Johnny Frost on "iZombie." Blakeslee is the voice of Mrs. Turner and various other "Fairly OddParents" characters, the witch in Disney's "Brave," and Kala (Tarzan's adopted mother) in "The Legend of Tarzan."

Fans of the "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and "The Legend of Korra" will have the opportunity to meet Janet Varney, the voice behind Avatar Korra, during the con. Varney's other roles include Wonder Woman in 2021's "Injustice," Stacey Gusar in "How I Met Your Mother," and Vilya in "The Legend of Vox Machina."

For the newer children, and their parents, everyone's favorite Australian pups, Bluey and Bingo will be attending as well.

Additional guests, who have been announced as of May 10, include:

  • Nazeeh Tarsha, voice of Kajka Hibino in "Kaiju No. 8," Oshi Ashioki in "A Sign of Affection," and the Commander in "Spy x Family."

  • Jill Harris, voice of Noelle Silva in "Black Clover" and Hifumi Takimoto in "New Game!"

  • Katelynn Barr, voice of Ryukyu in "My Hero Academia" and Himeno in "Chainsaw Man."

  • Mark Hildreth, who played Pastor Tom Hale in "Resurrection" and Heero Yuy and General Vente in "Mobile Suit Gundam Wing.

  • Daisuke Tsuji, voice of Scorpion in "Mortal Kombat 1" video game and Crown Prince in 2015's "The Man in the High Castle."

Other activities this year will include fan activity panels, discussion panels, pro-cosplayers, gaming, and a Nerf-blaster maze. More events and details will be announced in the days leading up to the convention.
