Erbert underwent an emergency craniectomy followed by a cranioplasty surgery back in December.

Four months after undergoing two operations on her brain, Hayley Erbert made a triumphant return to the stage alongside her husband, Dancing with the Stars alum Derek Hough.

The footloose couple performed on the opening night of the Symphony of Dance tour in Melbourne, Fl. with Erbert becoming visibly overwhelmed by the audience's enthusiastic reception of her.

Hough and Erbert married last year in August but their newlywed bliss was interrupted by an unexpected illness. Hough had previously rescheduled dates for the Symphony of Dance tour, though he had not announced if his wife would be joining him. Earlier this month, they announced that Erbert would indeed be back two-stepping with Hough.

"I am just so excited to get back out and dance again after having something so traumatic happen," Erbert told PEOPLE at the time. "Dance has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember and so I'm just really excited to get out there and do what I love and also to see the people that have supported me throughout this entire healing journey,"

After she had become disoriented following a tour performance with Hough in Washington D.C. last December, Erbert was rushed to the hospital where she was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and underwent an emergency craniectomy. The dancer then had a successful cranioplasty surgery to replace a portion of her skull and has been on the mend since.

A few months post-surgery, Erbert and Hough shared an update on her health, with the 29-year-old touting her "new outlook on life."

"To this day, I still have really good days and I have really bad days — emotionally and physically sometimes — but I'm doing so much better every single day," Erbert said. "Truly there is so much progress every day, and I'm so grateful for that."

"It's been wild going from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows," Hough added. "But I have to say, throughout this experience this woman has been unbelievable, and her perseverance and her acceptance of the whole situation, her strength, it's been remarkable to witness firsthand. She really is a miracle, and it's been miraculous and it's still a journey.”
