Harvest Moon Drive-In closes in on #1 in USA Today competition

GIBSON CITY, Ill. (WCIA) — Gibson City’s beloved Harvest Moon Twin Drive-In Theatre is currently in second place for USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for the Top 10 Best Drive-Ins. They are encouraging more votes to become number one.

Voting has been open for a week so far, and will remain open through May 13 at 11 a.m. People can vote once a day, every day on USA Today‘s 10Best website.

“We want to show the world that we have the best fanbase and that a small drive-in in rural Illinois is just as good as those that have been around longer or in bigger cities,” Harvest Moon officials wrote in a social media post.

The Harvest Moon Drive-In opened in 1954 as drive-in movie theaters gained popularity in the U.S. Though many drive-ins have since fizzled out, Harvest Moon has remained alive and well, celebrating its 70th anniversary this year.

In addition to offering a novel and timeless movie-going experience, the theater frequently holds community events throughout the year. That includes an upcoming Spring Fling Craft and Vendor Show on May 4.

This marks the third time in the last 10 years that the Harvest Moon Drive-In has been nominated as one of USA Today’s Top 20 Drive-Ins. Officials with the theater claim they are also one of the only past Top 10 selections to make it back into this year’s competition.
