‘Hacks’ Season 3 trailer: Deborah Vance is on top of the world [Watch]

“Hacks” is back on Max for Season 3 on May 2, and the streaming service released a new trailer for the Emmy-winning comedy on Tuesday. 

In Season 3, Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder) reunites with Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) after Deborah fired her at the end of Season 2 so Ava could pursue her own dreams. Now, after months apart, they’re both at different places in their careers – with the success of her special, Deborah is back on top, while Ava has enough self-respect to demand that Deborah not make fun of her appearance (yeah right) – and they’re going to try to take advantage of their momentum. “Anything I want to do, I have to do them now,” Deborah tells Ava. She has to strike while the curling iron is hot.

Hacks Season 3 is coming after a two-year break, which included recovery time for Smart after a heart procedure. Smart has won two Emmys for her performance as stand-up comedian Deborah Vance and could complete a rare hat trick at the Emmys this year, while the series won for writing and directing in Season 1. 

In addition to Smart and Einbinder, the main cast includes Paul W. Downs (who co-created the show with Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky), Megan Stalter, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Kaitlin Olson, Christopher McDonald, Mark Indelicato, Rose Abdoo, and Lorenza Izzo. The Season 3 guest cast includes Helen Hunt, Christina Hendricks, Christopher Lloyd, J. Smith Cameron, Dan Bucatinsky, George Wallace, and Tony Goldwyn (who plays a new love interest for Deborah). 

“Hacks” Season 3 premieres Thursday, May 2 on Max with the first two episodes (of nine). Weekly two-episode releases will follow until the season finale on May 30.
