Gwyneth Paltrow Admits She Asks Her Kids to Help Her Understand Internet Memes: 'What Does That Mean?'

The Goop founder is mom to daughter Apple and son Moses, whom she shares with ex Chris Martin

Gwyneth Paltrow sometimes has to lean on her kids to understand things on the internet.

In an interview with CULTURED, the Goop founder and mom of two, 51, shared that she doesn't really understand memes on the internet and often finds herself tapping her son Moses, 18, and daughter Apple, 19, for help translating them.

"This one meme, 'I'm baby,' " Paltrow explains of a recent meme she asked her kids about. "I'm like, 'What the f---? What does that mean?' And then everyone tries to explain what 'I'm baby' means. I finally got it."

Asked how Paltrow is going to understand memes when she soon becomes an empty nester as her son Moses heads off to college, the star adds, "Luckily, I talk to my daughter multiple times a day, and I’m sure when Moses goes it will be the same."

"But in the meantime, until September, I have my son here to explain to me what all these crazy things that pop up are," she continues.

While speaking to Zanna Roberts Rassi for a segment on Today earlier this month about how her brand goop is launching a clean beauty brand, good.clean.goop, the actress was asked if there were any movies she turned down when raising her twin kids, whom she shares with ex-husband Chris Martin.

"There were a lot," Paltrow admitted.

"I mean it’s funny because it didn’t feel like a sacrifice to me at the time, but if I look back at it through a cultural lens, I think like, wow, if people know that I didn’t do this movie or that movie, they’d be quite shocked," said the mom of two.

A month prior, Paltrow spoke with The Sunday Times and shared her feelings about Moses leaving for school in the fall.

"In the fall, Brad [Falchuk] and I have boys that will be going off to university," Paltrow said of her son Moses and her husband's son Brody. "It'll be interesting to see how the morning routine changes with no kids in the house."

"On the one hand, incredible sadness. A deep sense of impending grief," the actress said of how she feels about the kids leaving. "On the other hand, this is exactly what should be happening."

"Your kids are supposed to be, you know, young adults who can achieve and cope and make connections and be resilient. That's exactly what you want. And that means they leave the house."
