Emile Hirsch was one of the most promising stars of Hollywood when he starred in films like Into the Wild, Speed Racer, and Lords of Dogtown, but that came to a screeching halt during the Sundance Film Festival in 2015.

At an after-party at the film festival, a highly intoxicated Hirsch, according to police, attacked Paramount Digital VP Daniele Bernfeld.

In front of a crowd at TAO Nightclub, Hirsch asked her why she looked “so tough” and that she was a “rich kid” who shouldn’t be at Sundance. When she walked away, Hirsch put her in a chokehold from behind, according to Bernfeld, and pulled her across a table and onto the floor, where he put his hands around her neck, at which point her vision went dark, she recounted.

Now, it seems Hirsch is getting a second chance, thanks to Quentin Tarantino, who has cast the 33-year-old actor in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which centers around the Manson family murders.

Jameela Jamil, who stars in NBC’s The Good Place, took to her Twitter to call the filmmaker out on his casting choice.

She added in another post that the attack “left her with three years of PTSD” and that he “never paid for her treatment, and still hasn’t apologized to her.”

Hirsch pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and served 15 days, paid a $4,750 fine, and performed 50 hours of community service.

Hirsch has never fully left the public eye, but Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will be his highest-profile movie since the assault.

Among the film’s other stars are Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Al Pacino, Margot Robbie, and Burt Reynolds. It is expected to hit theaters next year.
