Good news alert: Cat stuck in mayonnaise jar gets freed

Cats crammed into jars are somehow a popular thing, and they even have their own hashtag on social media. But recently in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., a stray cat is making headlines after she got her head stuck in a mayonnaise jar — and not in a cute way. But don’t worry, this has a happy ending.

The local WNEP news team was able to get to the bottom of this jar — I mean, story. Apparently, the cat’s hunger had forced her to dive headfirst into the mayo jar without realizing the pickle ahead of her.

Linda Ruggere of Wilkes-Barre, who noticed the cat’s predicament, wasn’t able to save her from the mayo jar. But reporter Allen Vickers said that finally she was caught by members of the cat rescue group Whiskers World. From there the nonprofit took her to a local veterinarian, Dr. Inayat Kathio.

Kathio tranquilized the cat, cut the jar off, and then hydrated the cat. “She was trying to eat the mayonnaise at the bottom. Poor thing. She must have been hungry,” Kathio said. He did all the work pro bono, since Whiskers World was short on funds.

Afterward, she was named “Miracle,” although it’s unclear if that’s related to a certain brand of condiment. Miracle was returned to the neighborhood where she was found. A group of neighbors agreed to keep feeding her.
