When Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist, the loved-up couple from the Golden Bachelor, said they were splitting up just three months after getting hitched on the live Golden Wedding show, it caught everyone off guard. Sure, a few people behind the scenes, including fellow contestants, hinted they saw it coming, but for most fans, the news was a total shock.

Even though it seems like there are no hard feelings between them, breaking up when your relationship has been all over TV comes with its own set of challenges. First off, they’ve got to give back Nist’s engagement ring from celebrity jeweler Neil Lane, following the rules of the show. Then, there’s this kind of awkward situation where they both appeared on an episode of Celebrity Family Feud with their families, just a bit over a week before they told the world about their divorce.

There’s no word yet on when this Family Feud episode will air, but it seems the show’s planning to go ahead and air it as usual, per TMZ. Just five days before they announced their split, Turner seemed excited about the filming, sharing a photo on Instagram from the day saying, “Had a GREAT time at Celebrity Family Feud with the blended family.” Notably, the only photo featuring Nist in Turner’s post was a group photo.

This episode is definitely going to be a little strange for fans (and probably for Turner and Nist, too), reminding everyone of what once was. It really shows how unpredictable and sometimes awkward reality TV can be, mixing personal heartbreak with public entertainment.

The Golden Bachelor couple announced their divorce on Good Morning America last Friday after three months of marriage. “Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation, so forth, and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage,” Turner said on the show, hinting that location was part of the divorce equation. “We looked at homes in South Carolina, we considered New Jersey, and we just looked at homes after home, but we never got to the point where we made that decision,” Turner added.

In the end, the first Golden Bachelor couple’s story is a real-life reminder that most TV fairy tales don’t have happy endings. But their upcoming Family Feud appearance? That’s set to be an unforgettable, if not slightly awkward, final chapter in their short-lived but much-talked-about romance.
