Geena Davis offers ‘theory’ why she doesn’t appear in the ‘Beetlejuice’ sequel

Geena Davis has finally confirmed that she does not appear in Tim Burton’s upcoming “Beetlejuice” sequel.

“No, I’m not. I’m not in the remake,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “Oh, you were expecting that I would be?”

“Yeah, no, you know what?” she went on. “Because my theory is that ghosts don’t age … Not that I have.”

Davis, 68, revealed the news while attending the CinemaCon 2024 Big Screen Achievement Awards on Thursday. She was honored with the Viola Davis Trailblazer Award recipient at the event.

Davis portrayed Barbara Maitland in the 1988 original “Beetlejuice.” Alongside Barbara’s husband, Adam (Alec Baldwin), the pair played ghosts who lived in the home of Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara’s characters, Lydia and Delia Deetz.

Davis’ news means that it is highly unlikely that Baldwin’s character will appear in “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” although it’s unknown how their absences will be explained.

“Our characters were stuck the way they looked when they died forever, so it’s been a while, it’s been a minute,” the “Thelma & Louise” star told ET.

Not only is she not in the upcoming sequel, but Davis hasn’t even seen the film’s trailer.

“I heard the trailer came out and somebody said they were crying, so I have to see the trailer,” she told the outlet.

Ryder, O’Hara and Michael Keaton, meanwhile, will reprise their roles. The movie will also star Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Burn Gorman and Willem Dafoe.

“It’s truly very personal and emotional and special,” Burton, 65, gushed about the film to an audience at CinemaCon on Tuesday. “It’s like a weird big home movie for me.”

O’Hara then chimed in, adding that the sequel will be both funny and a bit scary for viewers.

“And if people don’t like it, then f – – k them.”

Keaton interjected: “I’ll tell you this, it’s really f – – king good.”

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is set to hit theaters on Sept. 6.
