Galia Lahav to Donate More Wedding Gowns After Woman Finds the Designer's $6k Dress at Goodwill for $25

TikTok user Emmali Osterhoudt went viral for her big-time thrift store score

After an Alabama woman found a $6,000 wedding gown at a Goodwill for just $25 this month, the dress' designer is now planning to play "fairy godmother" to more thrifty brides.

A spokesperson for Galia Lahav, the designer behind the pricy wedding dress that one TikTok user scored at a Goodwill for next to nothing, told The Washington Post that the video has now inspired a new initiative that will ensure more designer dresses will pop up at thrift stores across the country.

By the end of the year, five to ten Galia Lahav dresses will be donated to Goodwill stores to be distributed across the country — hopefully giving a few brides a "Christmas miracle," spokesperson Yael Friedman told the outlet.

“We thought it would be an exciting idea to play fairy godmother and donate a few dresses ourselves to Goodwill for more Cinderella moments," Friedman wrote, adding that Lahav herself was touched by the response to the viral TikTok.

Of its intent to coordinate dress donations with Goodwill, Galia Lahav said in a release previously provided to PEOPLE that "it's a reminder that sometimes, life's surprises can be as beautiful as the dress itself."

As previously reported, Emmali Osterhoudt scooped the dress at a Goodwill store in Birmingham, Alabama, and documented her big find on social media for all to see.

"I’m making this video because today I found my wedding dress at Goodwill for $25, and it fits me like a glove. It's gorgeous," she said in the clip. "I found it online, and the original price is like $6,200. It’s by Ghalia Lahav. Paris Hilton — her most recent wedding dress was from this brand."

In a follow-up clip, the full-time nursing student said she was about to check out of the store when her friend spotted the dress in a section she hadn't looked at yet. And while Osterhoundt isn't yet engaged, she revealed that she bought the dress for her future wedding day.

"I do not plan on selling it," she declared in the video, revealing that she received multiple DM inquiries. "I do plan on wearing it on my wedding day whenever that time comes. Hopefully I’ll still be able to fit in it by then."

"I really don’t know how I got so lucky. I would like to say thank you to the girl who donated it to Goodwill because it made my whole entire year," she later added. "And little Emmali, who has loved weddings since she was probably 5, is kicking and screaming right now because she’s so excited."

In her latest interview with the Post, Osterhoundt opened up about the dress’s backstory — revealing that it went from a bridal shop in Louisiana, to the store Bustle in Birmingham, to its eventual Goodwill destination. Bustle has even contacted the new dress owner to offer her a "full-on bridal experience and veil try-on."

“I really love it so much that I kind of want to wear it on my wedding day, when the time comes,” Osterhoundt told the Post.
