Tom: During WWII there were lots of Japanese-Americans who volunteered to serve in the armed forces, despite the fact that their relatives were being held in internment camps. When they were assigned to duty, they were put into units serving in Europe since the concern was that if they were captured by the Japanese their fate would be especially unkind. One of those young men who volunteered to serve was Daniel Inouye from Hawaii. He later became a U.S. Senator from that state and also received the Congressional Medal of Honor for his service in Europe. A true American and a great American patriot.
