Gabrielle Union’s Daughter Kaavia Dances With Joy After Showing Off Her Beautiful Hair Transformation

Anne Hathaway’s makeover in the Princess Diaries was the best hair transformation ever … until now. Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade’s 5-year-old daughter Kaavia James just took the crown for winning hair looks, and her little dance of happiness at the end is pure joy.

Kaavia shared a video of her epic new ‘do on her Instagram account, run by her ‘rents. “Princess Diaries. Protect your 👑 at all costs,” the adorable clip was captioned. It begins with Kaavia sitting in a salon chair, wearing Bluey pajamas and smiling at the camera as her natural curly brown hair lies in wild waves all around her. She is already beautiful as is!

Next, her hair is brushed out and lying flat, which she shows off with an epic, slow-motion hair flip (done while eating a Nutella snack). A queen!

Braids are next! Kaavia poses sweetly and reveals her beautifully braided hair, which ends in loose waves. The braids are then pulled up partially on top off her head in two ponytails, giving a cute half-up, half-down look. At the end of the video, Kaavia is dressed and looking fabulous! She’s wearing white sneakers with red laces, a denim skirt, a white tank top, and a white-and-black checkered cardigan buttoned up. Her hair is now fully in two pigtails, accessorized with Bluey ears.

“When you’re feeling your new braids,” text over the video reads. Kaavia jumps up and down, slides to the left and to the right, and poses with her hand on her hip, exuding joy with every step. She clearly loves her new look as much as we do!

“Ok princess kaav with the beautiful healthy hair ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️,” one person commented. “Kaavia letting her hair do the talking. ❤️” someone else wrote.

“First Beyonce now this cutie showing off her natural locks 😍” another commented, referencing an earlier video where Kaavia channeled her inner Beyonce in a blonde wig.

Kaavia’s experiments with hair go way back to 2020, when the Bring It On alum shared her goals for her daughter Kaavia and her stepdaughter Zaya, 16, who Wade shares with ex Siohvaughn Funches. Union told PEOPLE, “Your hair is a part of you and it’s an extension of you, but it has to start with self-love and pride in your Blackness and Afrocentric features, whether that be your hair, your nose, your lips or your body.”

The Flawless by Gabrielle Union founder added that her and Wade “are constantly reaffirming our kids, especially now, when there are so many external forces that are anti-Black. It is always pride and live your best life and live your best Black life. And let your curls do what they do.”

It’s clear that Union is still encouraging her kids to embrace their hair, and it’s so beautiful to see Kaavia doing exactly that.
