Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is packed full of dangerous-looking scenes, but one in particular tops the rest.

It’s set in a huge quarry, and sees Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy) team with Praetorian Jack (Tom Burke) as they do battle with legions of murderous bikers led by Dementus (Chris Hemsworth).

Men’s Journal sat down with Burke, who detailed the death-defying quarry sequence. At one point, he’s sat in the war rig while a stunt performer controls it from out of shot, a moment Burke calls “surreal.”

“The guy who's in this moment actually driving the war rig is on the left side of the truck with a steering wheel. I can't see him, he can't see me. We're going really fast and we're going on a very uneven thing and this thing is big, you know, hence him driving it. It’s like two lines of buses. And just a moment in the middle of that, I thought he can't even see what's on this side of the vehicle.”

It sounds absolutely terrifying, especially given the abundance of practical effects. The flamethrowers are real, and they’re very much capable of giving someone a nasty singe. However, Burke says the George Miller-led production was nothing but professional.

“I mean, you know what it's really safe, but it does feel just the right side of dangerous when they say ‘action’ and you just see everything going together.”
