“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” star Anya Taylor-Joy still doesn't have her driver's license

But she knows exactly which "hot car" she's going to get when she does.

Pump the brakes: Anya Taylor-Joy, star of famously car-stunt-heavy Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, still does not, in fact, have a driver's license.

The star, who plays a younger version of Imperator Furiosa in the Fury Road prequel film, reveals the ironic anecdote while seated for Entertainment Weekly's latest cover story, alongside costar Chris Hemsworth.

"I still don't have my license. I haven't been anywhere long enough to get a license," Taylor-Joy, who was born in Miami but raised in Buenos Aires and London, explains. Her costar butts in to clarify, "unofficially, she does."

"Yeah, it is pretty cool that the first thing I learned to do in a car is a juicy lift 180. I feel pretty secure in that, but I love cars. I love Formula 1. My dad was a power boat racer, so we're just pretty petrol-y as a family," she explains.

During an appearance on the Graham Norton Show in 2022, Taylor-Joy explained that the aforementioned Furiosa stunt — which involves a driver moving forward at high speed and then yanking the handbrake, thus spinning the car so it stops nicely facing the opposite direction — was her first time behind the wheel of a vehicle. At the time, she said the experience was "really crazy and slightly upsetting" given she didn't have a license.

Two years later, she still doesn't have one, but it could be on the horizon for her. "I know once I have my license, the stupid car that I'm going to get," she tells Hemsworth. "I'll probably break it. It's a Ferrari Dino. Those are hot cars. It's going to be bright yellow and I'm psyched."

"Your driving test should just be you handing them a DVD of Furiosa: 'You tell me if I can f---ing drive,'" Hemsworth jokes.

Furiosa, directed once again by Mad Max franchise mastermind George Miller, serves as an origin story for the titular character first introduced in Fury Road (played there by Charlize Theron). It sees her forced to survive many hardships as she plots a way back home through the Wasteland — and vengeance upon those who took her from it. In addition to Hemsworth, who plays warlord and Furiosa nemesis Dementus, it also stars Tom Burke.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga hits theaters May 24.
