Frieren episode 21 featured a few battles and some new revelations. The episode starts by giving a sneak peek into Serie and Frieren’s history. In the past, Serie had offered magic spell lessons to Frieren, which shed light on Frieren’s passion for collecting spells and practicing magic as an elf.

The episode then sees the much-awaited battle between Frieren and Denken unfolding. Frieren stands victorious in the intense battle, defeating Denken and his team. This leaves Genau and Sense gushing over Frieren, her strength, resilience, and capabilities—a feat that shocks the exam proctor.
Frieren’s resilience and extraordinary skills are visible in the way she orchestrates to capture Laufen. Moreover, she helps her allies and uses magic to defeat Denken. However, Denken and his team still manage to procure the Stille bird.
With the first test ending, 18 out of all the mages pass the test. The episode also highlights Fern’s struggles during the initial round, and the narrative prepares the backdrop for the second test of the First-Class Mage Exam.
