Free concert at Como Park will celebrate both World Accordion Day and Star Wars Day
Haven’t finalized your World Accordion Day plans yet? No worries — the Masked Accordions have you covered.
The 13-player group, all accordionists, are putting on a free show at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4, near Dock & Paddle, the cafe at Como Lakeside Pavilion in St. Paul.
The show is in advance of World Accordion Day on May 6, and the musicians will play a variety of music “from the Beatles to the Balkans to James Bond,” said accordionist Dee Langley in an email.
May 4 is colloquially “Star Wars Day” — May the Fourth be with you; get it? — and so the accordionists will also play some tunes from a galaxy far, far away.
Langley, who’s been playing the instrument since she was 4 years old, has performed alongside top musicians at the Minnesota Orchestra, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Ethnic Dance Theater Orchestra and is a member of the American Accordion Hall of Fame.
