The basic premise for Freaky Friday involves a mother and daughter who, due to some magical or fantastical event, switch bodies and have to live each other’s lives for a period of time. The title comes from the fact that this switch typically happens on a Friday, and chaos ensues as the characters attempt to navigate their new roles and try to understand each other better.

Through living each other’s experiences, characters learn valuable lessons about empathy, understanding, and the day-to-day challenges each of them faces. In the 2003 version, mom Tess (Curtis) and daughter Anna (Lohan) are constantly at odds with each other due to their different lifestyles and personalities.

Their strained relationship reaches a climax when they both make a wish at the same time on a magical fortune cookie during dinner at a Chinese restaurant. The next morning, they wake up to find that they have swapped bodies and are now living each other’s lives.

Is Lindsay Lohan in the Freaky Friday 2 cast?

Lindsay Lohan was confirmed in the Freaky Friday 2 cast in late March 2024, according to Jamie Lee Curtis’ Instagram post. “DUH! FFDEUX!” Curtis captioned a selfie with Lohan and tagged Disney in the post.

In an interview with People, Lohan confirmed she was “just excited to work with Jamie again and see how much further we can take it. Because we talk almost every other day in general, so I think we’re going to have a lot of fun with this.”

Is Jamie Lee Curtis in the Freaky Friday 2 cast?

Jamie Lee Curtis was confirmed in the Freaky Friday 2 cast in the same post alongside Linsday Lohan. She’s been talking about the project for some time, expressing how keen she’d be in reprising her role as Tess.

“There would be nothing I would love more, honestly, than to be able to work with [Lindsay] again, share our time again, and now be able to share it at this age with both of us 20 years older, or whatever we are,” Curtis told People at the time the film celebrated its 20th anniversary. “We’re talking,” Curtis insisted when asked if there was weight to the rumors of a sequel. “There’s a lot of good talk going on.”

She originally pitched the idea during an episode of The View in October 2023. “So then Lindsay gets to be the sexy grandma, who is still happy with Mark Harmon in all the ways you would be happy with Mark Harmon,” Curtis said. “And simply, I would like to see Lindsay be the hot grandma, and I would like to see me try to deal with toddlers today. I wanna be a helicopter parent in today’s world, as an old lady.”

Is Chad Michael Murray in the Freaky Friday 2 cast?

As of April 1, Chad Michael Murray has not been confirmed in the Freaky Friday 2 cast but he’s said previously he’d love to be a part of the sequel. Speaking with Vulture on the film’s 20th anniversary, he explained that the project had been announced shortly before the writer’s strike.

“They announced it, and then everyone went on strike. So I think the development is on hold for the moment. It would be awesome to come back and have Jake come in and reenter the world of mayhem,” he said. “It would only be that much more interesting having Jamie potentially play a grandma or Lindsay playing a mother and Jake entering that world in some weird, bizarre way or still a part of it. It would be fantastic. I’d be all in.”

Is Mark Harmon in the Freaky Friday 2 cast?

Mark Harmon has not been confirmed for the Freaky Friday 2 cast but he’s expressed his interest. During an interview with Kelly Clarkson in November 2023, he said: “I’ve known [Jamie Lee Curtis] since she was 15, and if she’s talking about it, then it’ll happen, because all things happen,” he said. Harmon started in the 2003 film as Ryan, Tess’ love interest.
