Business is booming in Bay View.

At least three new restaurants are expected to open on the ground floor of the KinetiK Apartments building in the next couple of months, including Milwaukee's first Burmese restaurant.

A new Mochinut is coming to 2144-2146 S. Kinnickinnic Ave. The franchise specializes in mochi doughnuts, milk tea boba, Korean-style corndogs and Vietnamese coffee.

It'll be the second of its kind in the Milwaukee area. The first Mochinut opened in Bayshore in July, and business has been great, owner Loan Nguyen said.

Nguyen is also opening Roll Up in the same location, serving customized spring rolls and noodle bowls.

Nguyen is hoping to open both restaurants at the end of September or early October if all goes according to plan.

On the same corridor, Nyonyo Lin plans to open an authentic Burmese restaurant, Ni Burmese.

The chef is Lin’s mother, Ni Ni. They'll serve cuisine like a rice noodle soup made with fish, garlic, onions, lemon and peppers.

“We grew up having restaurants In Burma,“ Lin said. “My grandmother passed the recipes down to my mother.

"I’m excited about introducing ... Burmese food to Milwaukee.”

The new restaurants will join Paloma Taco + Tequila, which opened a location, its second, in the KinetiK building in April.

Just a minute drive away from the KinetiK restaurants, at 2321 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., plans for a Nepalese and Indian restaurant, Himalayan Yak, are underway.

The location formerly was home to Riviera Maya and Midwest Diner.

The owners are targeting an August opening, according to their restaurant license application. They also own a Himalayan Yak restaurant in Fargo, North Dakota.
