HGTV has officially confirmed that its wildly popular show Flip or Flop will continue filming as scheduled, despite hosts Tarek and Christina El Moussa's breakup.

"We admire and appreciate Tarek and Christina’s great work on Flip or Flop," the network said in a statement to People. "When it comes to matters related to their own family, we respect their privacy and honor any decision that works best for them and their children. HGTV is currently airing episodes of Flip or Flop and the series will continue production as scheduled."

TMZ reports that the couple first started having problems last May, after multiple police officers and a helicopter were called to their home in response to a possible suicide attempt involving a gun. Witnesses allegedly saw Tarek grab a gun from his safe before fleeing outside, with Christina "running out of the house crying and shaking" behind him.

When police arrived, Tarek was compliant and immediately dropped his weapon, telling authorities that he wanted to "blow off some steam" but did not intend to hurt himself or others, TMZ reports. Police ultimately seized five guns from the couple's residence.

According to People, the couple have been living separately and dating other people since around the time of the incident but will still attempt to "sort out" their seven-year marriage.

"Like many couples, we have had challenges in our marriage," they said in a statement. "We had an unfortunate misunderstanding about six months ago and the police were called to our house in an abundance of caution. There was no violence and no charges were filed."

"During the process, we are committed to our kids and being the best parents we can be," they continued. "We will continue to work through this process civilly and cooperatively, and plan to continue our professional life together."
