A brand new documentary about Diane von Furstenberg’s undeniable impact on the fashion industry — and the world at large — is on the way.

Titled Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge, the film will explore the designer’s life and legacy, zeroing in on her impact as a woman in a male-dominated industry. In a press release, the project is described as “an unprecedented look at the non-stop life of a cultural luminary.”

“At a time when gender equality and women’s issues are at the forefront, Diane von Furstenberg’s life exemplifies empowerment, resilience, entrepreneurship, and style,” the statement continues. “Diane never saw herself as a victim of sexism; rather, she embraced her femininity in a strong and profound way, forging a path for her daughter and the next generation of women to follow.”

Now 77, the designer’s career has spanned 50 years and paved the way for women in fashion. In 1974, she introduced the iconic “wrap dress,” a unique design renowned for its universally flattering silhouette. The garment is still sold by DVF today in a variety of colors and patterns.

“The fabric is really soft and really wonderful, and it lasts forever,” DVF said of her signature dress in an interview with PEOPLE. “And then, the trick with my prints is the movement. All the prints have a movement…. And when you put a dress that ties to your body and you add this movement, it makes you look good and it makes you feel feline.”
