Fire Country fans can rest assured that Bode and Garbiela's relationship hasn't completely been burned to ashes — at least according to Stephanie Arcila!

When season 2 of the procedural drama premiered on CBS in February, fans were shocked to discover that Arcila’s Gabriela Perez moved on from Max Thieriot’s Bode Donovan. Last season the couple broke things off after he secretly confessed to a crime he didn’t commit and went to prison. In fact, Gabriela closed the door on their relationship after it was revealed that she and Rafael de la Fuente's Diego had gotten engaged.

Though her character may soon be heading down the aisle, Arcila exclusively tells PEOPLE there's more to what meets the eye and even more that lurks beyond the surface of Gabriela and Bode's romance will-they-won't-they romance.

"I think right now they're in a healing process and looking within and trying to figure out with their mind, body, and heart," she explains of their new dynamic. "Right now Gabriela really thinks that what she's doing is right, but her heart might be still in another place."

Despite their complicated feelings, Arcila says that the two "definitely still love each other" and have an undeniable "connection."

When asked what fans can expect to become of them in season 2, the actress says their relationship can be perfectly described through one song.

"'Lose Control' [by Teddy Swims]," Arcila explains. "The whole time, it talks about anytime they're near each other, they lose control. Anytime they're not with each other, they lose control. They have this insane chemistry and this need that just draws and pulls them, that is almost impossible."

Fire Country follows Bode, a young convict to seeks redemption through a prison release firefighting program where inmates work with firefighters to extinguish dangerous unpredictable wildfires. When he's assigned to work in his rule hometown called Edgewater in Northern California, he fights for a chance at redemption after burning down his life and leaving town five years ago.

In addition to Arcila and Thieriot, the series also stars Billy Burke, Kevin Alejandro, Diane Farr, Jordan Calloway and Jules Latimer. The hit series was renewed for third season in March.
