Film festival to get under way on Monday

Apr. 16—HUNTINGTON — The Banff Mountain Film Festival will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Marshall University's Recreation Center, part of the Marshall Artists Series.

The eight-film, one-night event will include free popcorn and the chance to win prizes from several outdoor brands.

The program, titled "Fireweed," will feature films centered on adventure, perseverance and life lessons from the outdoor world. They include:

—"No Way," a four-minute French film made in 2024 by Jean-Baptiste Chandelier.

—"The Ascension Series: Morag Skelton," a five-minute film from the United Kingdom featuring a deaf climber.

—The American "School of Fish," made in 2022, explores the health of the planet and the salmon fishing industry.

—Edited to 41 minutes for the festival, "Chronoception" follows five explorers in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan to ski the Kokshaal-Too range.

—"To Be Frank," a 12-minute film from the United States, is a biographical look at 73-year-old Frank Paine of South Bay, California.

—A renewable energy sailboat explores Greenland's West coast fjords in "Going Greenland," a 23-minute American film from 2023.

—"Well Worn Life with Dani Reyes-Acosta" introduces Reyes-Acosta, a mountain athlete, land cultivator and storyteller.

—French sport climber Seb Bouin is featured in "Reel Rock: DNA," a 23-minute American film from 2023.

Attendees are encouraged to embrace the outdoor ambiance by bringing along camping chairs, blankets or sleeping bags to fully immerse themselves in the Banff Mountain Film Festival experience.
