'Doctor Who': New Foes, New Friends, New Trailer

Fellow Whovians, are you suffering from severe TARDIS withdrawal? Not to worry, your favorite Doctor will be making weekly house calls again starting Sept. 19, when the ninth series launches on BBC America. A new trailer for the upcoming season just premiered online and teases plenty of new monsters, not to mention new faces. One of those faces belongs to Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams, who’s set to guest star in an episode that will likely be immortalized on Doctor Who and Game of Thrones-dedicated Tumblr pages for centuries to come.

But as popular as she is, Williams won’t upstage the show’s biggest attraction, Peter Capaldi, taking his second spin in the TARDIS as the 12th incarnation of the time-traveling Time Lord. Capaldi’s companion, Clara (Jenna Coleman), is also back to help her friend deal with the return of last season’s big bad, Missy (Michelle Gomez) aka The Master. Those pesky Daleks are also in the mix, this time occupying their very own city.

The Doctor may not have an immediate plan for how to defeat these various foes, but never fear: as Clara reminds us in the teaser, “He will have, and it’ll be spectacular.” That sounds like the only logical diagnosis.
