Felicity Huffman's Daughter Will Reportedly Retake the SATs After Her Mom's Scandal

Earlier this year, news networks ran wild reporting on the college admissions scandal known as Operation Varsity Blues. Now, one of the children caught up in that scandal, Felicity Huffman’s daughter Sophia, will reportedly retake the SATs, as TMZ reports.

In case you forgot, more than 50 people were brought up on charges including bribes to college officials and SAT score inflation in connection with college admissions. Two of those indicted included Huffman and Full House actress Lori Loughlin. Huffman pleaded guilty to her role in paying $15,000 to have Sophia’s scores boosted, and is set to serve two weeks in jail starting October 25th.

Now, TMZ is reporting that Sophia is determined to go to college and wants to retake the SATs. It has been ruled that Sophia was unaware of her mother’s actions and should be allowed to take the test again. After Huffman’s arrest, she described the aftermath with Sophia in a letter.

“When my daughter looked at me and asked me with tears streaming down her face, ‘Why didn’t you believe in me? Why didn’t you think I could do it on my own?’ I had no adequate answer for her,” Huffman wrote. “I could only saw, ‘I am sorry. I was frightened and I was stupid.’ In my blind panic, I have done the exact thing that I was desperate to avoid. I have compromised my daughter’s future, the wholeness of my family and my own integrity.”

Not only will Huffman serve two weeks in jail, but she will also pay a $30,000 fine and is set to do 250 hours of community service. There’s no word on how mother and daughter are working things out now that Huffman has been sentenced. Husband William H. Macy revealed in a letter obtained by Newsweek to Judge Indira Talwani that his wife and daughters’ relationship “exploded” in the wake of the scandal.

Actress Lori Loughlin hasn’t been sentenced yet for her separate case, though unlike Huffman, she has not pleaded guilty.

Taking the SATs is hard under any circumstances — just a fraction of 1 percent of students achieve a perfect 1600, so it’s a testament to Sophia that she’s willing to take it again. It has to be tough to be criticized for something her parents did. Hopefully, she aces it on her own and gets into the college of her dreams.
