It looks like Warner Bros will add another chapter to The Matrix universe as it was revealed that a new movie is in the works at the studio.
Drew Goddard, the writer and director behind The Cabin in the Woods, is said to be taking on the project, both penning the script and directing.
It will be the first time a Matrix film won't have direct involvement from Lana and Lilly Wachowski, and fans aren't feeling confident that Goddard is up to the task.
Stupid, evil, bad, destined to failure, all that is wrong with studios. A violation. You do a Matrix without the Wachowskis and I will lead a vicious and never ending campaign against you. Very rarely is a movie so clearly an extension of its creator. It won’t work without them. https://t.co/YtiZaOXEsi

Nothing but respect for Drew Goddard, but not even the king of live action Daredevil can save this franchise. There is only one Matrix movie. https://t.co/cXMo5glBf5

I like Goddard, but a non Wachowski should never touch The Matrix https://t.co/GxnnVlFLp4

Further details on the project are under wraps, but Lana Wachowski is said to be serving as executive producer.
Jesse Ehrman, President of Production at Warner Bros. Motion Pictures, said, "Drew came to Warner Bros. with a new idea that we all believe would be an incredible way to continue the Matrix world, by both honoring what Lana and Lilly began over 25 years ago and offering a unique perspective based on his own love of the series and characters".
Goddard added his own statement, saying, "It is not hyperbole to say The Matrix films changed both cinema and my life". He continued, "Lana and Lilly's exquisite artistry inspires me on a daily basis, and I am beyond grateful for the chance to tell stories in their world."
