Blake Lively

Fans hoped that Blake Lively would make her grand return to the 2024 Met Gala, but after she did not attend the event, fans couldn't help but express how disappointed they were.

The actress—who previously skipped out on the 2023 event as well after serving as a co-host in 2022—may not have hit the red carpet, but her absence definitely got a huge reaction out of fans, who took to social media to air their grievances.

"Met gala is over ??? no rihanna? no blake lively?" one wrote alongside a meme of Jennifer Lawrence crying and saying, "What do you mean?"

"Blake lively where are you?" another inquired, while a third added, "pretending to not care Blake Lively isn’t there to save the night #MetGala."

Still, the 36-year-old is no stranger to the Met Gala, having first made her grand appearance at the extravagant event in 2008, shortly after she propelled to stardom as the “it” girl Serena van der Woodsen on Gossip Girl.

Since then, she’s been a staple at the high fashion gathering, often turning heads with glamorous and tasteful looks, including her striking 2022 Versace architecture-inspired gown, which morphed from a copper color to turquoise halfway into her entrance at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

"So I arrived in copper, and then it [patinated] to a verdigris," Lively told E! News at the time, noting that the transformation paid tribute to the Statue of Liberty’s changing appearance and lent itself to the theme inspired by The Gilded Age.

Lively and Ryan Reynolds also served as co-hosts of the event that year, and she was accompanied by her husband, who donned a classic tuxedo designed by Ralph Lauren, ensuring that his wife remained the star of the show.

The annual event is held to raise money for the museum’s Costume Institute, and it is a must-attend event for celebrity fashion lovers. The catch? You have to score an invitation and all attendees must be personally approved by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

The 2024 Met Gala takes place on Monday, May 6, with cohosts Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth.
