UPDATE: Missing Kansas man is being held in Crisp County jail, authorities say

A missing Kansas man whose family has been in search of for more than a week is being held at the Crisp County jail, according to authorities.

Roberto Junior Familia, 24, is an inactive National Guardsman who was most recently living in Junction City, his family said.

Jordaline Infante and Madeline Familia, his cousins, told the Telegraph’s sister newspaper the Kansas City Star that Familia was last in contact by phone on March 19.

On Monday, as his second daughter turned 2 years old, he did not call, Infante said, adding Familia normally keeps up with family from afar through social media and other contact. They live in New York, Florida and Puerto Rico.

In his last contact with family, they say Familia used distressing language and exhibited signs of being in a state of delusion or paranoia, possibly stemming from post-traumatic stress disorder, the Star’s Bill Lukitsch reported.

Familia told the Telegraph that his family struggled to file a missing person report with the Junction City police department because they were out of state. She said she reached out to city officials and, a few hours later, they were able to file the report.

When a Junction City Police detective ran Familia’s license plate Monday, Madeline said the last place his license plate was read was in Perry on March 20. His last text message was sent on March 21, his family said, and his phone has been shut off.

Perry police said Familia was involved in a vehicle pursuit with officers that they terminated the chase, adding he was being held in Crisp County jail in Cordele.

The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office said that Familia was arrested by the Georgia State Patrol on March 21 and that he’s being held on a $9,800 bond on nine charges that include fleeing/attempting to elude a police officer, DUI and speeding.

Familia’s cousin Madeline said that they haven’t been able to speak to Roberto yet, and they’re getting conflicting reports from law enforcement agencies about whether he was taken to the hospital before going to jail.

The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Familia is in the detention facility.
