Aging is an undeniable fact of life...and The Facts of Life star Mindy Cohn knows this. For the ’80s sitcom star, the best has yet to come. With each passing year, her child stardom sinks further into the past—but she’s okay with that. Cohn recently told Vanity Fair that she’s proud of her age and looks forward to turning 60.

“I wasn’t one of those girls that peaked in high school,” she said during the interview. “To be quite frank with you, I think I’m peaking now. I think I’m going to look the most adorable in my 60s. And I think girls like me, who have that life where you really aren’t your most attractive in your 20s and 30s [and] actually start to really kind of look good in your 50s and 60s, have it so much easier. I didn’t necessarily feel [as] protective over my physical self as people who are told they’re attractive.”

Cohn also discussed her perspective on cosmetic procedures—or the desire “to nip, tuck, fill, or pull,” and said that it isn’t an idea she ever entertains for too long. In fact, Cohn explained any time she or her best friend do entertain the idea, they break into the Frozen song “Let It Go” to relinquish the thought. Cohn explained that the body “is the vessel,” in reference to being a character actor. “We want to look the age we are.”

She added that some of her other friends are not accepting the reality of aging in the same way: “They’re really fighting it, and it hurts my heart.”

Luckily, Cohn learned early on that life only improves as you get older. While working on the set of The Facts of Life, the star found mentors in actresses like Betty White, Elaine Stritch, Ruth Gordon, and more. “I remember being in my 20s and them saying, ‘Your 50s, 60s, and 70s are going to be the best years of your career!’”

They were right—now, Cohn stars in AppleTV+’s Palm Royale, playing a reporter. She says the role feels “a little full circle,” referring to her Facts of Life character Natalie Green, an aspiring journalist. Cohn added that the morning of her Vanity Fair interview she spoke with Nancy McKeon, a previous costar, who told her she is “so proud” of Cohn after watching the first few Palm Royale episodes.

“It’s 45 years later,” Cohn explained. “And I’m so looking forward to people seeing me in a different way.”
