The ABC reality show first aired in February 2004.

Can't you just hear the crowd yelling, "Move that bus"?

ABC is set to revive its popular series Extreme Makeover: Home Edition in the upcoming TV season. Hosted by Ty Pennington, the reality series aired from 2004 to 2012. An HGTV edition of it aired briefly in 2020, when it was hosted by Modern Family alum Jessie Tyler Ferguson.

This go round, which the network called a "new iteration," will be hosted by Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin, the cofounders of lifestyle brand The Home Edit. The duo have already authored three New York Times bestselling books and hosted their own show on Netflix, Get Organized with The Home Edit.

ABC teased the reality series in a news release:

"In each episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Shearer and Teplin will meet a deserving family in need of a new home. Leaning into their organizing expertise and unique design aesthetic, the duo will work with each family to evaluate and edit every single item they own, ultimately transforming not only their home but the way they live. Assisting them is a team of builders and contractors from homebuilder Taylor Morrison who will expertly reconfigure the home based on the family's lifestyle and needs."

The original version of the home renovation show was known for moving viewers. In each episode, Pennington and company would swoop in and fix up someone's home in about a week. The recipients were typically a deserving family, dealing with serious illness, a military assignment, or some other hardship, who needed help in making the most of their space. Tears were a common sight at the end of each installment, when the community would gather around the still-hidden glammed-up dwelling and shout to see how it looked.

The creators of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition were nominated for 11 Emmys and left the ceremony with trophies in 2005 and 2006 for best reality program. The series beat out the likes of the original Queer Eye, Antiques Roadshow, and Dog Whisperer with Cesar Milan.

The new series has some extra celebrity cred, thanks to Reese Witherspoon, who's executive producing through her media brand Hello Sunshine. Witherspoon's company also produces fare such as Apple's The Morning Show, HBO Max's Big Little Lies, and Prime Video's Daisy Jones and the Six.
