Eva Mendes’ Latest Show of Support for Ryan Gosling Shows How Her Culture May Have Rubbed off on Him

While Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes may be one of the most private couples in Hollywood, we sometimes catch a glimpse of what their life is like together. Whether it’s on Instagram or awards show acceptance speeches, the couple only get personal rarely, but we love to see it every time.

Most recently, during his appearance on Saturday Night Live this past weekend, the Barbie star showed viewers just how much he’d learn from Mendes, who is proudly Cuban American.

In the skit, Gosling is joined by SNL favorites Kenan Thompson and Marcello Hernandez. Sitting all three at a table, the friends show off their heavy Latin accents as they talk about their plans to hang out that night. When the waitress (played by Sarah Sherman) arrives, she asks where they’re all from. “I’m Dominican, and he’s Cuban and he’s from Tennessee but ever since he married a Cuban woman he different,” Thompson says pointing to Hernandez, then Gosling.

“A Cuban wife can change you,” Gosling says, with the crowd erupting in laughter.

In addition to looking so proud as he said it, Gosling’s accent was quite impressive too. So much so that even Mendes showed her support. “My Cuban Papi made this Cuban Mami so happy with this!!” Mendes wrote on Instagram alongside the skit. “Years of hanging out with my Dad paid off.”

Later on in the skit, Hernandez’s character lists the special guests attending the party. Of course, it included a shoutout to Mendes. “Tonight is gonna be crazy,” he says. “Many celebrities gonna be there, there’s gonna be Eva Mendes.”

For Mendes, the second shoutout was a nice touch. “Gracias to the super-talented @marcellohdz for this skit,” Mendes said of the comedian. “The way you say ‘Eva Mendes’ 😂! And @kenanthompson always crushing.”

“Can’t wait for this trio’s next reunion. ❤️” she continued.

In the comments, fans are seen praising Gosling for his uncanny accent, and Mendes for showing her support. “Ryan’s pronunciations shows he’s with a Cuban woman,” wrote one commenter. “The Eva Mendes shoutout was the cherry 🍒 on top!! ❣️❣️❣️” wrote another.

As a reminder, Gosling and Mendes, who have been together since 2011, share daughters Esmeralda and Amada. At the end of Gosling’s SNL appearance, per Entertainment Weekly, the actor thanked his family. “Eva, Ezzy, Ama, I love you!” he said. How sweet!
