Escape from L.A. is a post-apocalyptic action movie directed by John Carpenter. The movie begins with Los Angeles being struck by a massive earthquake in 2000. The San Fernando Valley was flooded and cut off from the mainland. A theocratic presidential candidate takes advantage of the situation and wins the election for a lifetime term in office. He claimed that God was punishing Los Angeles for its sins, and he ordered the United States capital to relocate to his hometown in Virginia. His daughter, Utopia, sides with the resistance movement and steals the control unit for a doomsday weapon. After a series of failures on missions, Snake is assigned a mission to find the weapon and the girl.
