Emma Stone, Joe Alwyn and “Kinds of Kindness” Cast Pose Together on Cannes Film Festival Red Carpet

'Kinds of Kindness,' Emma Stone's latest movie with director Yorgos Lanthimos, is in theaters June 21

Emma Stone, Joe Alwyn and more are on the 2024 Cannes Film Festival red carpet to celebrate the world premiere of Kinds of Kindness.

Stone, 35, and Alwyn, 33, appeared alongside their costars Willem Dafoe, Jesse Plemons and more on the red carpet Friday, May 17, as their new movie with director Yorgos Lanthimos debuted in Cannes.

Recent Academy Award winner Stone could be seen smiling in a shimmering burgundy Louis Vuitton gown with a plunging V-neck, while Dafoe, 68, Plemons, 36 and Alwyn donned various shades of blue on the carpet.

Stone danced next to Dafoe and joked around with Margaret Qualley, who also costars in the film, while Alwyn appeared more reserved ascending the famous red-carpeted staircase amid throngs of photographers. Director Lanthimos, 50, also appeared among his star-studded cast, pairing an ascot with his double-breasted blue suit.

Kinds of Kindness is the second time Stone and Alwyn have worked together in a Lanthimos movie, previously in the 2018 film The Favourite. Stone also starred in the director's most recent movie Poor Things, which additionally featured Kinds of Kindness actors Dafoe and Qualley.

The new film also marks Alwyn's first major project since his breakup with Taylor Swift after a six-year romance. Stone, 35, one of Swift's closest friends, recently reflected on working with Alwyn in a press release for Kinds of Kindness.

"I love Joe. We had to do some pretty dark stuff on this one, so it was extremely comforting to be with him because he’s one of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet," she said.

Hunter Schafer, Hong Chau and Mamoudou Athie, who also appear in Kinds of Kindness, were also seen making chic arrivals on the red carpet in Cannes.

A synopsis for Kinds of Kindness describes it as "a triptych fable, following a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing at sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader."

Lanthimos hinted at what fans can expect while speaking to PEOPLE at the New York City premiere of Poor Things in December 2023. "It's three different stories and there's a core of seven actors, including Emma, of course, who play one character in each story, so they all play three different characters," he said at the time.

Poor Things earned Stone her second Oscar win in the Best Actress category at the 2024 Oscars.

Kinds of Kindness is in theaters June 21.
