Elleda Wilson: Finding the precious

Oct. 6—Allie Gardner was visiting Manzanita beach with her 8-year-old son, Miles, when, to her horror, she lost her engagement ring in the sand, KGW.com reports.

Heartbroken, she and Miles dug around the site to no avail, and finally had to head back home to Portland. Even so, "I just had this feeling that I couldn't let it go that it was at the beach," Gardner recalled. "I knew it was there."

Miles was equally avid to resume the search. "It's just was so precious to her," he said, "I just wanted to find it for her." So, two days later they returned to the beach, this time armed with a metal detector, strainer and shovel. But they couldn't find it.

Desperate, this time she turned good old google for help, and happened upon TheRingFinders.com website. Although it is a international group, luck was on her side, as one of the ring finders, Gabriel Valencia, lives in Seaside, and was willing to come to the beach and search. He found her ring in less than 10 minutes.

"The whole ring finder thing was to help people," Valencia said. "I like helping people." (Photo: KGW.com)
