DWOS Marquette County Style kicks off with Ken-tastic day 1

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WJMN) – Dancing with our Stars Marquette County Style kicked off today with a Ken-tastic day 1.

This year’s theme brought back some of the most iconic Barbies… and of course there were Kens. The event kicked off earlier today at the Forest Roberts Theatre on Northern Michigan University’s campus. The funds raised from ticket sales go to benefit the U.P. Hospice Foundation.

The couples were told their theme and style of dance in February and have been working on their routine since.

“So we were actually told in the beginning that we had received the easiest dance there was,” said Christopher Durley, the DJ Vibe Barbie Dancer in DWOS Marquette County Style. “And then everyone was like, ‘Just kidding. We lied to you. You have one of the hardest dances.’ I feel like we’ve picked it up pretty fast.”

“Well, we also have a fantastic pro,” said Samantha Durley, the other DJ Vibe Barbie Dancer. “Lauren Culpepper broke things down very simply for us and we’ve just been able to pick it up really quickly.”

Night two will kick off at 5 pm with a Pink Carpet event at Hegdecock, then the show will take place at the Forest Roberts Theatre at 7 pm.
