The Duchess of Sussex found a special way to honor her late mother-in-law during her recent trip to Nigeria.

Duchess Meghan paid tribute to Princess Diana by wearing a necklace that once belonged to the former Princess of Wales. Prince Harry gifted Meghan the meaningful jewelry piece, which features a diamond-encrusted cross pendant attached to a gold chain, People reports.

Meghan wore the accoutrement on May 11 when she and Harry attended a reception dinner hosted at the Nigerian Defence Headquarters in the city of Abuja. As for the rest of her outfit, the duchess additionally wore a strapless ivory column dress from St. Agni, gold knot earrings from Dior, nude Aquazzura heels, and her go-to Cartier Tank watch and gold bracelet.

Meghan often wears jewelry that once belonged to Diana, from a pair of diamond butterfly earrings to the royal’s famous aquamarine cocktail ring. In fact, Meghan’s own engagement ring features two round-cut diamonds from Diana’s personal collection, both of which flank a larger center stone cushion-cut diamond sourced from Botswana.

Diana isn’t the only family member to have received a special sartorial tribute during the couple's recent trip to Nigeria. During another event on Sunday, the duchess stepped out in a familiar yellow dress—the same Carolina Herrera garment that she had worn to celebrate Prince Archie’s first birthday in 2020 and to announce her pregnancy with Princess Lilibet in 2021. She accessorized the sentimental look with a green striped shawl, nude slingback leather sandals, gold hammered disc earrings from Jennifer Meyer, and a gold AURate collar necklace.
