“Killed them all, of course.” That’s Robert Durst’s eerie confession in the jaw-dropping finale of the 2015 HBO docuseries The Jinx: The Life And Deaths Of Robert Durst. It’s also the refrain repeated again and again at the beginning of the trailer for the surprise second season of the show, which premieres April 21. It was a water cooler moment that everyone was talking about—and though it wasn’t a legal confession, it was certainly a point of interest when Durst wentback to court for the murder of his best friend, Susan Berman. But according to the new trailer for The Jinx—Part Two, “The confession was just the beginning.”

According to HBO, the second interaction of The Jinx is a “six-episode continuation” of the original series. “In Part Two, the filmmakers continue their investigation for the next eight years, uncovering hidden material, Durst’s prison calls, and interviews with witnesses who had not come forward until now,” reads the logline.

As far as uncovering hidden material goes, the teaser makes it sound like real groundbreaking stuff. At least according to director Andrew Jarecki, who says some evidence they found “changed my perception of something I’ve been working on for 17 years.” A recording is then played of a woman’s voice asking for confirmation that what she’s saying is confidential, “’cause my phone may be tapped at this point, but I’m going to tell you this story, okay….”

It sounds like the voice of Berman herself, who wrote extensively about growing up the daughter of a mobster. In 2015, Durst was arrested in connection to Berman’s murder; the presumed motive is that the disappearance of Durst’s wife was being reinvestigated, and Durst wanted to silence Berman, who may have had knowledge of his involvement. He was eventually convicted in September 2021, and died in prison four months later. All this and more will surely be covered when The Jinx returns in April.
