Donald Glover denies his schedule is delaying “Community” movie: 'I swear it's happening'
The long-awaited follow-up film to the beloved NBC sitcom is set to land at Peacock once it's been filmed.
The long-awaited Community movie hasn't filmed yet, but that's not Donald Glover's fault. The Mr. and Mrs. Smith star, who portrayed lovable Troy Barnes on the first five seasons of Community before leaving the show to pursue other career opportunities, recently addressed the delay.
“It’s happening but I don’t know when. I swear, it’s happening,” Glover told Deadline last week. He continued, “Everybody is hating on me on the internet and it’s not me! They’re like, ‘We know that you’re the reason.’ Maybe I was last year — maybe — but not this time.”

"Six seasons and a movie" was a common refrain on Community, used by resident TV obsessive Abed (Danny Pudi) to describe the ideal fate of a beloved TV show. Once Community concluded after six seasons (the first five on NBC and the last on Yahoo's short-lived streaming service), fans took up the call for a follow-up film.

Finally, in 2022 Peacock announced that the much-hoped-for Community movie would actually be happening, with series stars Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, Ken Jeong, and Pudi reprising their roles. Plus, original series creator Dan Harmon was on board. Glover and Yvette Nicole Brown were not included in the initial announcement, but were both later confirmed to be participating. That only leaves original series regular Chevy Chase excluded from the lineup, but given his infamous falling-out with Harmon and subsequent departure from the show, that's not surprising.

Glover said earlier this month that the script is "done," so now all that's left to do is film. Jeong said on The Tonight Show in February that "it’s really about getting everyone’s schedules to line up." He singled out Glover as "the biggest star in the world," but clearly the other cast members are busy as well.
