The Cannes Film Festival 2024 is set to begin on Tuesday, May 14, and it will surely be a treat for dog lovers. This year, the Festival de Cannes doesn’t only have movies starring canine actors. The festival will also have special one-minute shows featuring Messi of “Anatomy of a Fall” fame. Animal lovers will also get to enjoy the actor of “Dog on Trial” Kodi. The canine actor will walk the red carpet alongside his co-stars.

Cannes Film Festival 2024 will have several dog actors on the red carpet

Border Collie Messi made headlines when he appeared at the Oscars 2024. For Cannes 2024, the dog is set to host one-minute daily interviews to ring in the beginning of the film festival. Per The Times, Meryl Streep and Jean Dujardin have already agreed to be interviewed by the canine actor.

To fit his role, Messi will come equipped with a mic, camera, and other technology needed to conduct an interview. Raphaël Mezrahi will pose the questions, and the pup will register the actors’ answers. There will be a total of eight one-minute interviews. Moreover, Messi will ask questions “with the innocence of a dog,” per The Guardian.

Other than Messi, Kodi from “Dog on Trial” will also be present to walk the red carpet. Kodi plays the role of Cosmos in the canine-centric movie, where he is put on trial for biting several people. The film is Laetitia Dosch’s directorial debut. She will star alongside Kodi, playing the role of Avril, who takes on the case of Cosmos.

“Dog on Trial” isn’t the only movie focusing on dogs this year, as “Black Dog” tells the story of the period before the Summer Olympics 2008. In preparation for the prestigious multi-sport event, the Chinese government decided to rid the streets of strays. In the film by Guan Hu, a man in the dog patrol team bonds with a stray pup, and the plot follows the duo navigating the canine purge together.
