Docuseries Revisits When Yankees Player 'Dated' 15-Year-Old Girl. Decades Later, He's Convicted of Rape

A former Major League outfielder currently sits in prison, having been convicted in 2009 of sexually assaulting two underage girls he coached in youth basketball. But his known abuse of minors surfaced nearly 20 years before his convictions, when he would show off his 15-year-old girlfriend at Yankee Stadium.

A new docuseries, Bronx Zoo ‘90: Crime Chaos and Baseball, premiering this week on Peacock, delves into the chaos of the 1990 New York Yankees, possibly the worst team in franchise history made infamous by several off-the-field controversies. Most disturbing among them was that of Mel Hall, the now-convicted sex offender. (An exclusive clip of the series is shown below.)

Hall is currently serving a 45-year sentence in Texas, and is not eligible for release until 2031 at the earliest, according to online prison records.

In 1990, Hall was in his second season with the Yankees, with whom he would ultimately play four seasons. But it wasn’t his play that generated attention that season. At the time, Hall was in a purported "relationship" with a local high school girl, who is now known as Chastity Easterly, and had gone as far as to move in with her family, who were starstruck.

Easterly appears in Bronx Zoo ‘90, along with Kim D’Avignon, who would later prosecute Hall in Texas.

“Almost in record time, the family not only allows [Hall] to be around them, but he moves in,” D’Avignon says in a clip shared with PEOPLE. “And he not only moves in, he and Easterly move into her parents’ bedroom and they move into her old bedroom.”

Also appearing in the clip is Hall himself, in a prison interview. Hall recalls Easterly's family being nice to him.

“Good family unit,” Hall says. “Good to be a part of that unit at that time because, really, you know, I was a live wire. So it really settled me down, being part of a unit."

Easterly also reveals that Hall had gotten in the good graces of her family, particularly her parents, noting that he called her mother “Mom” and her father “Pops.”

Hall’s criminal convictions would ultimately stem from two separate incidents, SB Nation reported, when two players he formerly coached in AAU basketball came forward and say he raped them in the late 1990s, after he had retired from Major League Baseball.
