Kokushibo is the Twelve Kizuki, which holds the 12 strongest beings amongst the demon-kind, only inferior to the Demon King himself, Muzan Kinutsuji. Kokushibo was a human five centuries ago, during the Sengoku Era. Under the name of Michikatsu Tsugikuni, he is the ancestor of the current Hashira Muichiro Tokito.

He was also the older twin brother of Yoriichi Tsugikuni, often regarded as the strongest demon slayer and the founder of the breathing styles that the current demon slayers use. He found the first style, Sun Breathing, passed down as Hinogami Kagura and used by Tanjiro. There isn’t much revealed about him in the anime, but the manga defines his personality and history well.

Kokushibo first appeared in the third installment of the popular hit series Kimetsu No Yaiba or Demon Slayer. He is the main supporting character to the Demon King and is affiliated with the Twelve Kizuki. It is also known as the Twelve Demon Moons, which split into Upper Six and Lower Six Moons. He holds the highest title of Upper Moon One in the organization.

Kokushibo is pale-complexed, tall, muscular build. He possesses long, black, spiky hair with red tips tied up in a ponytail. His most noteworthy feature are his three sets of eyes present on his face, and his middle yellow irises consist of the mark of Upper Moon One. Kokushibo dons a purple-and-black hexagonal patterned kimono. His human form resembles his demon form pretty well. The only difference is his three sets of eyes, which are replaced with a single pair of eyes, and he has a white kimono.

Kokushibo is quite reserved and silent. He often keeps to himself while retaining an aura of unnerving tranquility and mystery that adds to his personality as the topmost demon. He rarely speaks, but when he does, his emphatic tone gives him authority over his entire demeanor.

Kokushibo holds immense respect for the hierarchy system, with respect to the Twelve Kizuki, and especially towards Muzan. He is a powerful demon, only inferior to the Demon King himself. Kokushibo has faced countless Demon slayers during his 500-year tenure as a demon. His abilities have been refined to his highest potential with his total mastery of Total Concentration Breathing. He is known to be the only demon to possess the highest concentration of Muzan’s blood amongst the Upper Ranks.

Kokushibo can also absorb human and demon bodies by physically contacting the target. Just like other demons in the show, Kokushibo has the ability to manipulate his own flesh. He can alter his face to possess more pairs of eyes and use this ability on his katana. This essentially ascends it to a state where it can never be destroyed. His Katana is an extended version of his own flesh. It possesses the ability to regenerate part of the blade that’s damaged during his fights. Along with that, it can also retain the ability to manipulate its shape.
