Demi Lovato is nominated for a Grammy, 4 months after overdose: 'Woke up filled with hope'

Demi Lovato‘s year is ending on a high note.

The singer is celebrating her Grammy nomination for Best Pop Duo on Christina Aguilera‘s track “Fall in Line.” She wrote on Twitter that upon hearing the announcement Friday morning, she was “filled with hope.” She continued, “Dreams come true y’all… Thank you @xtina. I love you so much.”

A second tweet delved deeper into her adoration of her “sis” Aguilera.

As did this caption on the image, in which she called Aguilera her “forever idol.”

Aguilera responded soon after, writing, “You deserve it all and getting to work with you was its own award for me @ddlovato. There’s no one I’d rather share this with!!”

Of course, this has been a tumultuous year for Lovato, who just four months ago suffered a near-fatal drug overdose reportedly on fentanyl-laced oxycodone. She hasn’t made any public appearances since leaving rehab, but she now has something on her schedule for Feb. 10, Grammy night.

Aguilera has had Lovato’s back for some time, but stepped up her game as the “Sober” singer returned to the spotlight after her stint in rehab. The other day, Lovato posted a perfectly normal and noncontroversial photo from jiu-jitsu and while some haters attacked her for seemingly no reason, Aguilera doled out a big dose of love. “And we keep on tickin — till the end of time — I looooove youuuuu!” Aguilera commented. “Can’t wait to continue to [have] you by side now. I’ve missed you so very much.”

The women performed “Fall in Line,” which came out in May on Aguilera’s Liberation album, at this year’s Billboard Awards. In June, just before Lovato’s crisis, Aguilera said in an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 on Apple Music that Lovato is a “sweetheart” and a “real girl’s girl.” As for their collab, “It was important for me that I had somebody that could really blow. I wanted somebody that could come to play,” Aguilera added.

Lovato has a lot of people in her corner. After the troll hate on her workout photo, her big sister, Dallas Lovato, gave haters a dressing down. “Why are you making my sister’s body the topic of your conversation? Go f*** yourself,” she said in an Instagram Live video. Dallas ended the video by summing up her entire message, which was that her sister is the “most beautiful, strong, amazing person that I’ve ever met in my entire life” and that should be all that matters. She ended with, “My sister is beautiful, she’s alive, she’s conquering a lot of really hard s***. So. Bye.”

This is Lovato’s second Grammy nomination. In 2017, Confident was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album.
