Demi Lovato has a sense of humor about her broken engagement.

As host of Sunday’s People’s Choice Awards, the singer and actress, 28, ticked off what she’s been up to in 2020, amid the pandemic, including getting engaged to soap star Max Ehrich and then getting “engaged” in short order.

“I performed at the Grammys and sung the National Anthem at the Super Bowl,” she said of the great start to the year, which was to be her big comeback after her overdose. “But then COVID hit, and everything was shut down, so I did what everyone else did. I went into lockdown mode and got engaged” to The Young and the Restless actor.

She continued, “I got into painting, photography, meditation, tested the limits of Postmates Unlimited. I also didn’t know this could happen, but I reached the end of Instagram four times. I binged seven seasons of Pretty Little Liars, got unengaged and then I went looking for aliens in the desert, so basically the same as everyone else!”

Lovatics, also known as Lovato fans, loved how she handled it:

Lovato was first linked to Ehrich in March and they became engaged in July. While they looked oh-so-happy-together in many, many Instagram photos and photo shoots, in late September they split. And it was truly a bizarre one — as he claimed he read about it in a tabloid and then staged a photo shoot of himself looking sad sitting at the place where they got engaged.

She silenced the noise with a surprise breakup anthem, “Still Have Me,” after reportedly being “embarrassed” by Ehrich’s public statements and shenanigans related to their split.

Lovato hosting was a highlight at the E! awards show, which saw Jennifer Lopez deliver a moving speech after being honored as the People's Icon of 2020.

And Ellen DeGeneres, who took home the Best Daytime Talk Show Award for her The Ellen DeGeneres Show credited her staff for her win — after the headline-making trouble behind the scenes at the show.
