The Vampire Diaries series finale, "I Was Feeling Epic," lived up to its name in a lot of ways. It was epic and heartbreaking and packed with moments of satisfying resolution for the show's devoted fans, with Nina Dobrev returning as Elena one last time. And though Delena shippers got their happy ending, co-creator Kevin Williamson just revealed that a major moment for the couple was cut. In the original cut of the finale, Damon was going to propose to Elena.
“We actually had a moment, which we didn’t have time for ― everything got cut. I think the first cut came in 18 minutes over,” Williamson told TV Guide. “And there was a moment in the show where he proposed and she responded after medical school. And the whole point of that moment was just to show that she became a doctor. And so we thought, ‘Oh, we’ll just put her in scrubs and we can cut that piece.’”
But hey, it could be worse. Fans of Stefan/Caroline got to see their beautiful wedding play out literally right before Stefan died a tragic death, so maybe it's better you never saw Damon propose.
