Hacks, Max’s showbiz comedy about aging comic Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) and her writer Ava (Hannah Einbinder), has revealed the trailer for season 3, which premieres on May 2nd.
Soundtracked by Elton John’s “Benny and the Jets,” the new trailer shows Deborah Vance in the aftermath of her comedy special’s success, and enjoying a second wind of stardom. She’s got interviews lined up, photoshoots, and a new (younger) demographic of fans are finally paying attention. Meanwhile, Ava, still on her own, struggles to cope with Deborah hiring new writers and moving on without her.
As the trailer moves along, however, it shows Ava and Deborah working together once again, tasked with the challenge of sustaining Deborah’s success amidst more pressure than ever. The official logline reads “A year after parting, Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) is riding high off the success of her standup special while Ava (Hannah Einbinder) pursues new opportunities back in Los Angeles.” Watch the trailer for season 3 of Hacks below.
In addition to the new teaser, Max has confirmed that cast members Paul W. Downs, Megan Stalter, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Kaitlin Olson, Christopher McDonald, Mark Indelicato, Rose Abdoo, and Lorenza Izzo will return. Guest stars for season 3 include J. Smith-Cameron, Helen Hunt, Christina Hendricks, Christopher Lloyd, Dan Bucatinsky, George Wallace, Tony Goldwyn, and Aristotle Athari.
