Deadpool & Wolverine,” Marvel’s only movie scheduled for release in 2024, just got a new red-band trailer filled with enough swear words and blood splatters to make up for a decade and a half of PG-13 movies.

The buddy action comedy finds Ryan Reynolds’ wisecracking mercenary Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s angry superhero Wolverine teaming up to save the world. The film marks the first time Deadpool and Wolverine are officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as each were previously part of the X-Men films produced by Fox. “Deadpool & Wolverine” is also Jackman’s first time playing Wolverine since 2017’s “Logan.” (If you’re wondering how Wolverine is back after what happened to him at the end of “Logan,” the answer is the Multiverse, of course – The Time Variance Authority first introduced in “Loki” plays a big role here.)

The trailer is heavy on Deadpool and Wolverine’s foul-mouthed odd-couple dynamic, and features the self-referential, fourth-wall-breaking comedy typical of the “Deadpool” franchise – and this time, the jokes are at Marvel’s expense. There’s an extended bit at the end of the trailer where Deadpool and his elderly, blind roommate Al (Leslie Uggams) engage in a snappy conversation about doing cocaine, “the one thing that Feige said is off-limits.”

“Deadpool & Wolverine” is directed by Reynolds’ frequent collaborator Shawn Levy. The screenplay is by Levy, Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells. The cast also includes returning “Deadpool” performers Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, and Karan Soni, and newcomers Emma Corrin as supervillain Cassandra Nova and Matthew Macfadyen as TVA agent Paradox. It has been reported that Jennifer Garner will reprise her role as “Daredevil” character Elektra for the first time in nearly 20 years, but she does not appear in the trailer.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” hits theaters on July 26.
