New “Deadpool & Wolverine” trailer has claws, Cassandra Nova, and F-bombs: 'Let's f---ing go!'

Get ready for a mixture of regretful pathos and below-the-belt humor from these two titular superheroes.

The original Super Bowl trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine kept the second titular superhero pretty close to the vest, only revealing Hugh Jackman's Logan in shadow at the end. But the second trailer this week had no such hesitations, opening with the mutant at his favorite type of haunt, a bar.

But this isn't Wolverine like we've seen him before. When Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool arrives to recruit him for a mission, Logan tries to fight back, but his claws only partially pop out, which the Merc with a Mouth pronounces as "whiskey dick of the claws. It's quite common in Wolverines over 40." That seems to be the mixture this movie will be providing: Pathos and regret from Wolverine and below-the-belt humor from Deadpool.

"This Wolverine let down his entire world," says the new TVA official played by Succession's Matthew Macfadyen. We only get glimpses of what exactly this means (as Reynolds jauntily notes, we'll probably have to "wait for a third act flashback"), but it seems like this Wolverine's original timeline was destroyed or decimated in a way he couldn't prevent.

Who might be responsible for such a disaster? The likely culprit seems to be the character played by Emma Corrin. Based on her bald dome, beige trenchcoat, and ability to deflect Wolverine's claws with psychic powers, Corrin appears to be playing Cassandra Nova (and press materials provided by Disney confirm that identity). As created by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely in Marvel comics, Nova is the evil twin sister of Charles Xavier who used her powers to commit mutant genocide by unleashing deadly Sentinel robots on the island nation of Genosha. In other words, she's one tough customer.

All will be revealed when Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters on July 26. For now, we know that a deluge of F-bombs will be dropped.
